Yarnold Bunkers
The compact guard post is named after Squadron Leader Yarnold of the RAF Regiment, who devised the concept in the 1980s.
Typically used as free-standing sentry posts, a Yarnold Bunker is often positioned near gatehouses or gateways and perimeters of MOD stations, barracks and sensitive military zones.
Offering fast deployment, the precast fortified units are used as a secure shelter and lookout, offering robust protection for guards against small-arms fire, making them ideal for perimeter defence.
Construction and Design
Assembled from interlocking concrete sections that include:
- Solid concrete base
- Blank wall sections, for structural support
- Loophole sections, containing equally spaced narrow firing or observation openings
- Roof section – to close the bunker
The modular design allows for flexibility, where sections can be added for extra height or larger openings, should they be required, semi-circular blast walls or earth banking can strengthen the entrance.
Made in Shropshire and delivered ready to install, the free-standing bunker can be painted to blend into the surroundings to offer more protection.
